30 Thursday

|
Every Thursday I am going to introduce a topic and ask for your response. After I hear back from 30 of you, I will close the comments for that topic. The first thirty that respond to the topic with a legitimate answer can then go to any or all of my current giveaways and make an additional entry. (This is provided you have already made the initial entry that requires you to go to the sponsor's website.) All you have to do for your additional entry/entries is type "30" and your email address.

So here we go for our very first 30 Thursday...

Today I have been thinking about water conservation and wondering if I do enough. I hear about people rigging their toilets with these special water saving contraptions, investing in special shower heads- I don't do anything like that.

What about you? Leave a comment telling me one thing you do to conserve water. It can be big or small. I want to hear about them. (And don't forget to take advantage of your extra entry for the Aveda giveaway!)

Thanks!

When it's yellow, let it mellow.
When it's brown, flush it down.

Simple. Though, I do find myself running to the bathroom ahead of unexpected guests to flush real quick.

The low flow water heads really are great. When we remodeled our bathroom we switched and you can't tell.

For us a biggie was water control outside. I love a big wonderful garden and green lawn. For the lawn we do a weekly deep water (1 inch) and for the plants I only water after the first inch of soil gets dry. They are all thriving!

I wanted to purchase one of the toilets that uses less water. I live in a rental property and this just wasn't a feasible idea at the time. So I have instead put a Two Liter bottle of water in the back of my toilet. This way the tank is not using as much water. Flushing has been no problem with less water.
We also tend to take showers instead of Baths. Showers at least in my house take less water as they are a lot quicker. I know my brother uses a lot of water because he is in the shower forever at his house.

I am also a follower of the above and I've started using a reusable water bottle instead of buying water bottles. I know its not much but its a start.

I agree with Carrie... I don't flush if it's only pee. In fact we use one bathroom for pee, and our master bathroom for #2. And at the end of every day we flush the spare toilet. it saves us on average of about 10 flushes a day so it saves. We did invest in one of those special shower heads. You can turn it slow. So when we're shampooing and when I'm shaving it goes into slow mode. it was $35 at Home depot. Good Investment I'd say!!

We have a dehumidifier that runs down in the basement. We take the water from it and water our plants.

take shorter showers and I like to take baths myself when I have the time although showers are definitely quicker. I also collect rainwater to water my flowers on the deck

I have my (kitchen) sink routed to drain into our garden. I use only "safe" soaps, obviously...but especially in summer, in Texas? That saves a lot of separate watering.

That probably wouldn't fly in the city...but you could wash your dishes in a plastic basin and then use the water on your plants! (I assume everyone has plants. Good grief, I'm a hick.)

run the dishwasher only when full and only do full loads of laundry

I haven't done it, but I've always heard that if you fill a water bottle and put it into your tank, you will save that much water every time you flush.
Gosh, I guess I probably should do that!
