30 Thursday

|
Today is the fourth annual National Dump the Pump Day. Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association, its purpose is to encourage people to leave their cars at home and discover the benefits of public transportation. Not only is public transportation better for the environment by conserving gas and reducing emissions, but it can save you money too!

Thank you to all those who participated last week! I enjoyed reading your comments on water conservation. Some had me laughing and all had me thinking about ways I can conserve more at my house. I have even had the chance to put many of your tips to use this week!

I look forward to hearing your tips for conserving gas and driving less. Have a fabulous Thursday!

At first thought a way to converve gas on National Dump the Pump day was dump your teenagers!! (Joke) Seriously one tip, and one I should try to follow, is limit how many times a week you are willing to drive your teenagers or kids to their friends house. We live in the country while their friends live in town, it makes a lot of traveling. Would probably save me $40/week.

I can't really not drive to work or anything, and there's very little public transportation in my town. What I can do, though, is make less trips to places around town. I try to make all my errands in one run and get everything I'll need for the week. That way I only make 1 trip to the grocery store, walmart, etc., instead of 2-3 trips on different days. All those little trips do add up!

We're staying home today, mostly. My husband had to go to the dentist, but he's close. My husband works from home, which saves a total of an hour and a half a day commute time. We live out in the sticks so there is no public transportation at all. We try to keep our trips close by, group all of our errands into one day, and travel together so we're all taking care of business at once. With six people in the house, this can have a big impact.
